International Women's Day for Women with Disabilities

This is the ninety-seventh of International Women's Day held to commemorate anniversary of women’s rights that has rights to participate in their society. Secondly, CDPO held the International Women's Day which located at CDPO office in Phnom Penh. It is the biggest event than the first event in 2006.

The significant topic of International Women's Day is “Promote Rights of Women with Disabilities.”

The purposes of this event which was organized by CDPO and supported by European Commission, CT, HIB, ILO, and ADD have as below:

  • To disseminate equal rights of women in society.

  • To eliminate violence and discrimination on women with disabilities.
  • To promote women with disabilities to participate in social development.
  • To promote women with disabilities to become a leader in society and development.
  • To disseminate the United Nation Convention of People with Disabilities.

In this event, there was a Disabled People's march in order to promote the rights of Women with Disabilities to participate in the equal society as well as Non-women with Disabilities. There are three hundred of people with disabilities that were participated in this special event. They were from DPOs, Federation of the disabled persons, people with disabilities, NGOs, INGOs, Ministries, and Ministry of Women's Affair. There was a joint statement which sent to Ministry of Women's Affair. In the statement was to include the Women with Disabilities' issue into their programmes.

A Women with Disabilities, Mrs Orm Sokoeurn, who came from Kompong Speu province, is working at Women with Disabilities Forum and has an impression of the International Women's Day that "I am very happy to take part in the special day because of this event is the rights of women and especially show the brave of Women with Disabilities to express their opinions to the society in order to let the public know about Women with Disabilities' issue."
